Portraits and Community

All of these images are from an ongoing project to show the people and community of Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. I have been immersed in this endeavor since 1999. Many of these people are still there, countless have moved on and I know several have died. The community goes through cycles; when the city restored the central fountain they also cleaned up the population a little bit, encouraging many of the more colorful residents to find other pastures. Over time, though, they return.

'Ward'

I look around every day and see faces, faces of life that are swaying like flowers in the morning wind to a tempo set out by destiny an opera of sorts where all the parts are pieces of an infinite picture and then for a fleeting second I see hope, this is what drives me further along the path in the knowledge that what I do is for a reason and perhaps not too different from you and others like you.

Regards & Respect

Hugh

Unbelievable

So there I was sitting on the computer Sunday morning lessoning to the new Sonia Dada CD and staring at the screen. So I typed in Shortridge in and hit search. I came accost your Photo Net page and am blown away. The pictures are unbelievable. Every pic is just compelling. My name is Joe Shortridge from Toledo Ohio. I also frequent Ann Arbor, yes I have spun the giant cube (witch by the way freaked out my sister last weekend). My photography is a combination of Nature Photography, Automotive and Music. Candid portraits can tell such a story with just a second in time. Some day I hope to capture the stories you tell with every shot. Joe Shortridge Toledo
