Andrew Zhou , July 08, 2004; 12:25 A.M.

thanks for the compliment on my yak photo. you've got some amazing work, many with a dingy canon a80 no less =)

to answer you question, it was running water on the ground. temperature about 70. 4000 meters above sea level though.

R E , July 12, 2004; 07:47 A.M.

Your photos are not only "pictures". They are spectacles, tales, dramas!

Wilson Tsoi , July 12, 2004; 08:32 P.M.

Pravs, Vicki, Andrew, Craig, Stavros, und Herr Reiner,

Pravs, Vicki, Andrew, Craig, Stavros, und Herr Reiner, thank y'll for dropping by and your kind words. Andrew, I know most folks probably are "underwhelmed" when found "A80" in the images' detail box. I just happen to carry it around more frequently than a SLR kit. Admittedly, I find satisfaction in squeezing every single drop out of the little A80 in most situation, while reserving SLR kit for sport, wildlife, theater, or other tasks that require it. ^_^

Tom Miner , July 21, 2004; 01:35 A.M.

Wonderful! So much color saturation and contrast-I love it! Congratulations! :)

Courtney Thompson , August 10, 2004; 05:07 A.M.

Amazed

I absolutely love your stuff. I love night photography/long exposures and using light as a subject or to accentuate the subject.... your stuff is really amazing. Your work makes me quite jealous, but also inspires me. Don't ever stop taking pictures.

Benedetto Dell'Ariccia , August 13, 2004; 04:50 P.M.

Just a word.....

Miticooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Wilson Tsoi , August 13, 2004; 08:53 P.M.

Tom, Courtney, and Benedetto,

Thanks, Tom. Welcome to the community. It's wonderful to know someone so young very interested in the craft. Courtney, I'd rather think that my work gives you inspiration rather than making you jealous...^_^...e grazie, Benedetto!

Erik Adams , August 16, 2004; 11:57 A.M.

Inspiring work. I like the range of your work and quality of the photos in all subject types represented. Depressing, too. I understand what Pradeep is saying. I have a long way to go.... Best regards.

Jayme Hall - Bardstown, KY , September 28, 2004; 03:44 A.M.

Wilson

I just realized I have never commented on your entire portfolio. So here I am. Now what to say. Your composition, color and mastery of just knowing what to put in your composition and how to photograph it never ceases to amaze me. I truly enjoy seeing and learning from the experience of just viewing your images. Your images are inspiring. I consider myself a novice when it comes to photography, but at being able to recognize Art, I am not a novice. Art and design have long been my passion. A gift I surely inherited from my dear mother. I feel sure, I must have been at least thinking about redecorating my bassinette and the entire nursery a day or two after birth! LOL. Anyway.....I truly enjoy your images, fun, creative, flawless in design, and just simply wonderful to behold. To me, they are a perfect blend of photography and art. Just simply put, they are outstanding. Thanks for sharing and teaching!

Wilson Tsoi , September 29, 2004; 05:02 P.M.

Robert, Martino, Jayme...

...thank you all for taking the time in viewing and commenting. I truly appreciate and value your feedback.

Jayme, an "in-depth" comment from you is just super special. Thank you. ^_^

Ivo Alexandre Rodrigues , October 01, 2004; 12:52 P.M.

Wilson, I didn't had enough time to see your hole portfolio yet and I'm feeling inspired already. The subtile details that many of your photos have make the diference. Thank you for sharing!

Howard Dion , October 01, 2004; 03:03 P.M.

Hello Wilson,

With 267 images online since June 2000, and an overall aesthetics rating of 5.80 and an overall originality rating of 5.48 no one can say Wilson Tsoi was asleep at the wheel. Although your travel and wildlife photography stands on its own and can compete with the best photo.net has to offer, I would say your September uploads demonstrate your versatility and mastery of the art of photography as well as mastery of post processing technology. You have your own style and your images are recognizable as being made by you.

From my own personal experience, your objective critique style and constructive suggestions have helped me become a better photographer. I have to believe that a large percentage of the other 739 photographers whose work you have touched must feel the same way.

I consider you a comrade of the lens, and a friend.

One additional comment. Your sense of composition, design, and use of color is like you are harnessing the energy of a star.

Daniel Runge , October 03, 2004; 02:12 A.M.

So much colour!

Ive just gone through your photos and have to say that Im really impressed! The photos are so full of colour and "life". I have to say that youre an excellent photographer and keep up the good work!

Charlotte Aberg , December 10, 2004; 05:33 A.M.

first of all - thanx for commenting on my portfolio! much appreciated, especially as your own portfolio is wonderful. not all of it is 'my cup of tea' - i prefer your more abstract work - but you definately have artistic vision! i don't normally like flower images but your tulip photos really jumps off the screen - greatt stuff!i'm also a multi media artist - photo is a small part of my work and i photo.net is great for 'meeting' other like minded photographers...will be checking back for reglar updates! good luck!

Avatar Oesterly , December 11, 2004; 05:50 A.M.

You have a lot in common with: ettan ettan

Thought it was interesting that you both had such similar, intense and deeply saturated colors as well as images from the same places. Has your path ever crossed with ettan ettan?

Tim Holte , December 16, 2004; 07:39 P.M.

Guys like you make me sick!! Tons of great photos and you are a nice guy, I hate that combination in people, makes me feel inadequate. On the serious side, you are one of the best! Just when I think I am starting to develop an "eye", I see your work and shake my head and say "here is a guy that really has an eye".

Wilson Tsoi , December 19, 2004; 08:30 P.M.

Avatar and Tim,

AVATAR: I take your comment of my similarity to "ettan ettan" as a compliment. However, I don't know the person (though I once thought it's Alex Goh,) and no, I have never crossed path with him. Now that you've mentioned, I'm going to have to try hard to do a little, "differentiation." ^_^

TIM: Talking about a nice guy with tons of great photos, sheeehh... listen to who's talkin'! You're the man. ^_^

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2004 to everyone!

Gaetan Chevalier , January 03, 2005; 08:36 P.M.

Paula Grenside , January 07, 2005; 01:17 A.M.

Marvellous

portfolio. Each folder is a jewel box, very hard to say the folder I prefer: the colors, the accuracy of details, the explorations of angles, the artistic intuition make the whole of your work outstanding.

Wonderful work!

Wilson, you have a fantactic collection of photos displayed here! I have 10D that I have used for the last couple years and was challenging myself to get some decent photos with the A95. I see you use the A80 in addition to your D70, it inspires me to see that you are doing something similar! Thanks for you comments on my photo!

Tim

Wilson Tsoi , April 08, 2005; 10:17 P.M.

Carlos, Tim,

Thank you so much for checking out my work.

Carlos, you'll be surprised how a little portfolio can grow in to a huge one here in PN.

Tim, indeed it is always a challenge with A80, in a good way that is. In the end, it's sure extra sweet to squeeze the most out from a little point & shoot, doesn't it? Last of its breed, I think. I'm going to have to go get a few A95s before Canon rolls in their next generation replacement (A510, A520, etc.) which switches over to XD cards and only 2 AA batteries!

^_^

Hey Wilson...

You've got so much supportive commentaries here that there isn't much vocabulary left to express anything. What more can I say....?

Thanks for visiting! Actually, you can say it in Bahasa Malay, too. ^_^

Fantastic Portfolio

I'm particularly fond of the travel photos and will use your vision and creative manipulation in my future adventures. Keep the photos coming for I will never tire of your creative approach!

Laurent Z , April 21, 2005; 03:37 P.M.

Excellent portfolio. I also love taking pictures of cities. I'd love to have your opinion on my Paris pictures.

Don Miller , April 22, 2005; 01:54 P.M.

I'm nearly speechless after spending some time (at last) in your portfolio. Fortunately, I can still type. ;-) I'll echo the idea that your photos make some feel like they should start over; it's like I've been accustomed to pebbles and have now opened a chest of jewels. Overwhelming. And inspiring, to see such beauty in so many varied forms from a single eye. Thank you.

Javier, Jason, Laurent, and Don,

Thank you much for visiting and your kind words. Very happy to share with you all.

I want to echo what someone else has said on your porfolio -- you coax the most "mundane point-n-shoot" to give you amazing and alluring results. Thanks a lot for sharing your creative images.

Jamie Nicholson , April 27, 2005; 04:22 P.M.

Wilson, a stroll through your portfolio is quite simply an enourmously humbling experience. I've admired your pictures as I've seen them go by but, for some reason, I've never before stopped by your portfolio. Your work is truly magnificent. You even make that pyramid monstrosity in the courtyard of the Louvre look nice. A sincere cheers to you for what you have created.

Wilson, your portfolio, when seen in its entirety, makes me drunk with the color and the beauty. I think I have to take them one at a time, so as not to be overwhelmed!

Axel Guillebastre , October 18, 2005; 01:19 P.M.

Wilson I really appreciate your portfolio. The Paris folder held my attention. It is a very original visit of my hometown's most photographed sights. As I tend to lack imagination when it comes to taking pictures of Paris, your work proves that originality and wonderful aesthetics (colors and sharpness especially) can come out of those classic places. Same about Chicago where I spent some months. Your entire work is a blast of colors and various places. It deserves frequent visits. Best regards, Axel G.

Marc Morris , November 16, 2005; 07:30 A.M.

Ron Adair , December 05, 2005; 05:50 A.M.

Jerk

You're a jerk. I come here looking for couple of decent photographs, and for what. All you have to show me is perfection, time and time again. You have sports images, flowers, landscapes, cityscapes. You do a bit of everything, but nothing looks poor. You suck. People like you shouldn't be allowed on photo.net. You make the rest of us look like dirty laundry. I think you should stop shooting for a couple of years, just to give us a chance to catch up to your skills, not like that would really help. Compared to you, we're all a lost cause. I mean, I even have a Nikon D2X, and I'm telling you, it doesn't do for me what yours does for you. This just isn't fair. Really. You should come look at my photos. Crap. All of it. I thought I rocked. But now I am going to sell my equipment and start washing windows for a living.

Hock Chong , December 10, 2005; 03:05 A.M.

Really Really Good!!!

I used to have similar or better equipments; went to some of the places appeared on your photos but different results. Yours are amazingly good!

Fantastic portfolio

After seeing Jon's comment on a move away from sports photography I decided to look at your portfolio. I agree with him. Your sports photos are great but I enjoyed your travel portfolios most Wilson. You really make the most of even the most photographed locations.

Wilson Tsoi , December 24, 2005; 01:37 A.M.

Thank you all for visiting!

LINDA: Very glad you found it so. Glad you have time to indulge in the visual treats! ^_^

AXEL: Very appreciative of your comment, Axel, especially since you're a true native of the two locales!

MARC: Riciprocatively I appreciate your sport images. Films are still in use, so we'll make do as needed. Certainly PS will ad some interesting addition to an image, only the creator will limit its potential!

SARAH: Thank you for your kind vote of confidence. Likewise, you're one as well.

PAULO: Graciously thankful for your revisitation!

RON: You're a man of many words! I'm certainly appreciative of your core intention!

HOCK: Very appreciative of your comments, Hock. Reason being is the fact that you've been to those places and have first hand knowledge of each image's potential and pitfall.

JOHN: Thank you very much for your kind words. Hope to see you back here, that's for sure!

KAH KIT: Indeed sports kinda suck around here on PN, but I certainly enjoy the gigs, especially since they translate monetarily!

Avatar Oesterly , January 06, 2006; 06:11 A.M.

Wilson:

You seem to have some of the best sensibilities when it comes to pure color aesthetics that I've seen on this site. To put it succinctly; I'd say you have the utmost control and understanding of your processes and the aesthetic message you seek to convey. I see you as having the ultimate in aesthetic control when the utmost demands are made of you in the commercial environment. This kind of control is often an end to itself, much like the work of many commercial photographers. But your aesthetics rise above the limitations of pure commercial statements and become stellar original works in their own right. In this regard much of your technical prowess sets you head and shoulders above most of the commercial photographer's and solidly entrenched within the more subjective fine art photographers. I'm sure you could teach us all a thing or two about understanding design, color and graphic dynamics. Really commendable portfolio.

Spectacular Sports' Shots

Wison, I just came across your gallery and had to join photo net just to make a comment. I am particularly interested in your sports' images. Simply stunning! Sharpness, depth of field and colour saturation are spot on. And you have a knack of timing your shots to perfection. The baseball shots I rate best of all.

My prime interest is horseracing photography and I would love to see you add that to your repertoire. After seeing your images, I am back to the drawing board on my own photography. Keep up the excellent work Regards, Neil

I'm envious

Hi, Wilson. I just wanted to take a moment and tell you that I have a great deal of admiration for your abilities as a photographer and artist. Looking through your portfolio was like taking a trip through a fantasy land where everything is as interesting and beautiful as you could ever hope that it would be. Hey, I love your photos. I can't believe you took most of those with a S80 and A620. The quality looks great from what I can see on these small images. Have you had success printing them large? Do you think that having the D70 earlier would have improved those images or your photography?

David Cassidy , May 18, 2006; 05:26 P.M.

Your work is remarkable in every respect. There are few photographers in the world who can approach this level of creativity, skill, and uniqueness. I am at a loss for words to describe your images. Amazing. Superb. Perfection. They don't do your work justice.

I somehow stumbled across your portfolio while surfing and "Google-ing" for technical tips. What an amazing place to find! I am in awe of your technical mastery -- especially that you are able to produce in some of your images such amazing work with "everyday" cameras like the Canon A80 and/or G3. Another testament to the fact that it's not about the machine one uses, it's the operator who makes the difference. Your images are truly a blissful visual journey of color, texture, and light. Thank you so much for sharing -- I just joined photo.net because I had to comment on your portfolio!!!

Inspiring travel pictures

Your portfolio is very inspiring. I have a few pictures I took of the Space Needle some years back when I was visiting, and I really enjoyed (and was humbled) by how you looked at it. My own photography is primarily travel photography (certainly my own portfolio on photo.net is) and I look here for things to think about the next time I'm out and about. I appreciate your work. Thank you for sharing.

Joan Newhall , November 15, 2006; 06:15 P.M.

Wilson...

I just browsed your portfolio for a few minutes. I will be back and take it all in by way of a slide show. It's fantastic....

Al Dennis , November 30, 2006; 10:38 A.M.

Your photos that were taken in "my back yard" - Seattle and Kauai - are fantastic. I say to myself,"Hmmm, I saw that too, but I sure didn't photograph it that well. You have a wonderful eye.

Chris Baker , December 15, 2006; 07:49 P.M.

Amazing!!

I just wanted to comment on the beauty of your images!! I love what you've be able to capture with your A80 and A620...you actually inspired me to start my own gallery! It's soley comprised of images I've captured with my A70...amazing what these little cameras can do isn't it!! Thanks for sharing your work with us!!

Take care, Chris

Francisco Ribeiro do Vale , December 25, 2006; 08:35 P.M.

I am speechless - this is a truly amazing gallery - love your colors and also all the different places you have visited - stunning photography !! You are truly talented !!

Sven Grauman , January 03, 2007; 06:08 P.M.

Wow... & Thanks

Truly, truly excellent work. What an eye for light and composition. And the tech-supremacy on top of this. The width of different motives is amazing from one photographer. I really adore what you have accomplished with the A80 and A620, pretty much imossible. One of the best portfolios I have ever seen. Very inspiring.

Ben Goossens , January 04, 2007; 11:09 A.M.

Wilson

I can claerly see that you have an excellent photographic eye. Very much strong, good composed and colorful images:-)

Your portfolio is one of my all time favorites! Would love to shadow you for a day in Seattle and learn all of your secrets!

Tristan Rayner , January 16, 2007; 11:21 A.M.

what else to say

I dont think there is anything else that can be said to you about your amazing images. um.... i like them!!! kinda pointless comment really!

so much colour, and you do such a good job of recording the places you have visited. i have widely travelled, but have nowhere near as many quality images as you. (my portfolio of finished or work in progress images on photo.net is very small) but even if i could complete all of my images, there would still be no comparison.

outstanding and insprirational.

Tristan

AmirAli Sharifi , January 17, 2007; 04:42 A.M.

you have a very nice portfolio and a lot of great colorful and unusual photos. and i like them very much , i've seen your A620 photos and im using A640 for photography cause im a beginer and it can be fully manual and it think its enough for me to learn photography technics :) (after i have learned photography maybe ill go to a DSLR )

Dean Huber , January 26, 2007; 09:52 A.M.

Thanks!

Because of seeing your excellent portfolio I have decided to pick up my D100 and start shooting again. I too live in the Northwest, Bothell to be exact, but with so many gray days I found it difficult to find things to be excited about photographing. But after seeing your images I know there are plenty of great images to be made here in the Northwest. Perhaps we'll cross paths at the Mukilteo lighthouse some sunset. Thanks Wilson!!

Thanks for all your feedback,

It's been a while since I check this page. Thank you all for your kind words.

Pete V, Carlos, Chuck Babbitt, Greg, and Bjorn, thanks for dropping in.

Cyrus, I especially value your feedback since it comes from someone with a very high standard in his field (macro, in your case.)

Jeff H., Ric M., David C., Francisco, and Maria V., thanks for taking a look and commenting.

Patrick P., thanks, and yes, I've printed them large and images from A-series look fine. Using D70 earlier may have improved with noise issue in those images captured with high ISO, but then again when I don't shoot high ISO when using small digital compacts. A lot has to do with using the right tools for task at hand.

Wilson Tsoi , July 24, 2007; 08:17 P.M.

Raphael L., Mr Omar, thanks for your comments.

Stephen D., indeed many miles in past decade, but staying home as of late.

Mike F., thanks for your vote of confidence.

Sunil, thanks and do take your time.

Thai, glad you discovered the usefulness of compacts. Different tools have different uses indeed.

Reyes F.Q., Jim H., Brian K., Max R., Sandi G., thank you all for your kind words.

Wilson Tsoi , July 24, 2007; 08:28 P.M.

Hugh W., Gino T., Johanna, Michel L., Philippe C., and Subhasish, glad you looked at these photos and thanks for your comments.

Will K., I always apprecite your frankness in critiquing and general comments around PN. I'm grateful of the Jordan comparison, but will have hard time keeping up with that Castaway volleyball. ^_^

Fiona M., glad you made the discovery and enjoying it.

Pavle M., Diane R., Mahen, thanks for all your kind words.

Nina R., welcome to PN and yes, use what you have and let your imagination run wild!

Cynthia M., Thanks for viewing. I envy you for living in such a wonderful place.

Angelo P., Asla, Dan G., Sandra H., Scott J., Joan N., Al D., Francisco, Elaine K., thank you very much for your feedback.

Wilson Tsoi , July 24, 2007; 08:39 P.M.

Sven, thanks for your kind words. Those little compacts can sure rise to occasions.

B. Goossens, thank you much and what an honor for you to pay a visit. I'm a big fan of your work as well.

Jan R., Mariellen R., Pavle M., thanks for your kind feedback.

John W., thanks and if you want to, just e-mail.

Tristan R., AmirAli, Dean H., Nevil Z., thanks, and just go out to shoot with whatever you got, be it film or digital, SLR or compact. Make sure to have fun!

Fabrice M., Raj N., Fehmida K., Thang T., Dimitar A., thank you all for visiting and feedback.

Your portfolio

New to PN - your portfolio happened to be the first that appeared. My 'type'' of photographer - what an excellent eye and an inspiration to us all - such a variety of subject all expertly captured. When titling the individual pictures it would be helpful in some cases to know where the photo was taken.
