Emmanuel Enyinwa , June 24, 2006; 09:44 P.M.

There is something about your work that I really like; its unpretensious simplicity. You appear on a scene, you blend in, and you walk away with bits and pieces of what you see. I can picture you around a fire, spinning long yarns about places you've been, things you saw. May you never lose that spirit. Emmanuel.

Rakesh Syal , June 27, 2006; 06:50 A.M.

EXCELLENT

I love the variety in your work! A great sourse of inspiration, Les! Thanks for your wonderful words! Regards!

I stopped by to visit your portfolio again and I feel like I took a quick trip around the world. We have so little history here compared to Europe. I especially like the colorful old architecture. Thanks for sharing.

Thank You!

Thank you for your kind comments concerning my work.

John Souleles , July 17, 2006; 10:27 P.M.

I have to say

I think there is great serenity and beauty in your compositions and your portfolio is outstanding because of it. Taking a complex world and placing it order these days is a lost art. Thanks for your comments on my cowgirl,...., I posted it to break up the usual relentless seriousness of the site,..., It's one of many shots I've taken in a drunken stupor,...

Cheers

John ;-)

Lucy Hollis , July 26, 2006; 05:29 P.M.

I came across your portfolio after seeing that you left a comment on one of my photos. Thanks. I enjoy you range of photographic subjects. What do you specialise in with your commercial photography? Surely not being a personal detective photographer the whole time!

Marty Brodell , July 26, 2006; 08:59 P.M.

Les, thanks for the kudos on my photo "Invasive Species". Coming from someone with such a wonderful portfolio such as yourself, those kudos mean a lot to me.Your photos have a clarity that makes them very friendly to the eye. I have truly enjoyed every photo I have clicked on! Particularly your travel series.I WILL be back! Thanks again! Best Regards, Marty

Nancy Mulder , July 28, 2006; 10:34 P.M.

Need a stylist!!

Hi Les, Thank you for your critique on my picture. Although fair and honest critique I was wondering if you ever give anyone praise. I love hearing critique, but it would be nice if someone could point out what is wrong and what they liked. I am not a professional photographer and so I'm not as experienced as you are. Since the clothes of my model seemed to be an issue maybe you could do the honor and be her stylist!! Other then that, thank you for your honest critique!!

Nancy Mulder , July 29, 2006; 02:03 P.M.

Thank you Les

I read your comment under my post and understand where you are coming from. However I would have appriciated a little better if you could have given me at last one could point you liked. I do know that in photographs there will be always some flaws. When my daughter is doing a shoot maybe 4 pictures of the 200 are used for her portfolio. I can see where the stylist comes into place when you work for fashion. However, I'm not a fashion Photographer and so I don't pay attention that this. She is my daughter in the picture and she is beautiful as she is. As far as the picture?? No, you cannot see a piece of her tonque. I have edited in Photo Shop but can only do so much!! I do appriciate your adive which this time was a lot better written then the first post. Now you at least explained to me what was wrong and where there is room for improvement. That kind of advice I like!!

Asher Addison , August 02, 2006; 07:35 P.M.

Thank you for your comments. I really appreciate them. I rarely get comments leading me further in my 'career' or any comments for that matter. Feel free to continue to look and critique my pictures. I ask though what do you mean by my "crude background". I think I understand since, yes, it is only a sheet but...? Your flower pictures are absolutely amazing! I love the color and composition and the angles you take with them. Good luck with your lifetime of captures!

Michael Lyons , August 04, 2006; 09:49 A.M.

Thanks very much Les---I found that the photo showed differently on different monitors--but nice effect--what exactly did you do to lift the shadows--would like to know---ML

hello

Thanks for your critique for my picture-arheology. You've said something about that, but I've decide that I'am going to send you some photos on your e-mail just to see with what I'am working and if you like it you can send me some of your opinion or critique. With every picture that I'am going to send there will be a few words about it. So if you like it send me a e-mail or something so I could know that you've recieved it. For end, sorry about grammar mistakes I'am not verry good with englis but I hope that you understand what I'am talking about. Once again, thanks for your message. by by

Thanks and no, I do not mind!

Hi Les, Thank you for your critique and the black and white conversion. I too prefer that photo in b&w, and usually display it that way, however, in my rush to upload some pics so my portfolio does not look to thin, I loaded it in color. Since my foray into digital, I have left out b&w, and this is an attention call. Really many thanks!!!

edit

Thank you! I put up the shot in color as well. I took them when I was ill and so they are very grainy and not edited because I really wasn't paying attention when I shot/saved them. I'm very much an amateur-but I just bought photoshop for my mac and I'm getting a new camera!

Thanks for your critique on my still life of "Eggplant and Peppers". I followed up a response after your comments. I read your biography and looked at your portfolio. Very well done portfolio. What caught my eye in your biography was you have made an excellent living with photography. Private investigator? Although I haven't made a living with my photography I would like to make a little money. I've just started so I'll work at it. Keep up the good work. Mark

Hello Friend!

Well here it is another year is passing away and we are coming into the holidays. I think time starts to go faster as we get older, it was just yesterday I wished my friends Happy Holidays and here it is again the end of a year. The holiday lights are starting to be put on some of the trees here in Dallas, we were out last night and some were lighting the trees. I wish for you all a holiday season with family and friends, after all is said and done all we have is each other.

I want all of you to know just what your comments and ratings on my work means to me, your words are my motivation, my drive to discover, to learn this art that we all love, thank you for taking time and thank you for caring about my works. At the same time thank you for letting us see your world, our lives are so much the same, we all care about our families and friends and we all share the same things, maybe someday our photos will help make for a lasting world peace. May you and your family be blessed this season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shooting

Micki F. , April 30, 2008; 01:12 P.M.

Les, whithout a doubt your pictures are like music.

Everyone of them have their own song to sing and story to tell. The colors are rich and then B&W's have richness beyond what most camera's will every be able to capture. You have a talent that some will never be able to capture. But I think I have said this before. ~ Just wanted to say it again. :) ~ micki

First and for all, thank you for visiting and commenting on one of my recent critique forum submission - which in fact- gave me the opportunity to discover your works. In summary, I found a variety of scenes, moods and color combinations which you converted masterly into attrative photographic documents. I can't favoritize the one or other work because every individual folder has extraordinary content and is a true representative for the artistic variety in your works. I will pop in from time to time to see what's new in you folders and to refresh my memory a bit. Have a nice day, Les! Thanks again and best regards, El.

Hi Les.....thank you for taking the

time to comment on one of my photos. Thank you also for your advise....it's nice to hear from someone who has "made a living" in photography. Sorry to say, (perhaps that is the reason I've remained an amateur) that I never carry a tripod....too heavy for me. The few times I actually took one with me, I never used it. Anyhow, I see from this awesome portfolio how you could indeed earn a living at it, just great.......best wishes from........Helga

Dear Les thank you very much for rating and suggestions on my photo Violet Carpet. Generally I'm afraid to change the color because I do not have a calibrated monitor, so I apply the scanner profile and aggiust the histograms in the HSL space to aggiust the contrast and luminance by Picture Windows pro (What do you think about this program?). I the case of my photo the bluish component was really visible, thank you again. Other suggestions are welcome I have to improve a lot. An other question if I thouch the color the photo is manipolated or no?

Adrian Klein , July 30, 2008; 02:12 P.M.

Les, I like your portfolio. Looks like you have traveled some nice places! Thanks for the critique on my Dust Storm image. I agree about the level 4 ratings, they should be given as it makes sense, that goes for me too. I just try to leave feedback as well if I ever rate at a 4. I feel it's only fair to know why your photo is considered only fair/average by the viewer. Keep up the great work!

Glenn Rasmussen , August 06, 2008; 11:34 P.M.

Les, The comment on my last shot is appreciated. I thought about blurring the BG more, but it didn't work for me. There's too much film in my life, and my PS skills are just average. You've got a nice diversified portfolio. Very enjoyable to view. Best regards, Glenn

Hey Les...

Thank you for giving me your honest opinion on my image "Hunter's Moment..." I can't learn without honest opinions and suggestions so I will take what you said to heart and try and refine the pose. Maybe next time I can make sure it doesn't look so distrubing and try my best to make it a bit more original as well. Thanks again, deb

Carlo Bergonzoni , September 24, 2008; 06:57 P.M.

Thanks Les

Hello Les! Thanks for your comment on my picture of a couple of eggs. Yes, it's a bit soft, but, that is what I wanted in that shot; i did not look for a scientific rendering of the egg shell asperities, and the lighting choice was to devoted to a warm and - definitely - soft general impression. Please, keep commenting my works. Thanks again!

Carlos Cass , October 19, 2008; 03:08 P.M.

Les

Many thanks for your extremely funny comment about my "A Room with a View" image. I had a great laugh when I read it. I showed it to my work colleagues and they also had a great laugh. I only take prescription drugs for a heart condition but it does say on one of the boxes that they can cause nightmares. Hmmm!! I wonder. Anyway at 66 I still have a very wacky imagination and that shows in some of my recent photos. Your portfolio is really nice. Lovely images. Best wishes from Scotland. Bill Hogg

Ah, I see I'm late getting here. I too appreciate the feel of simplicity in your work, which is such a hard thing to do when we're all trying so hard to do something extraordinary. You bring me back to a wonderful starting place, that of seeing and absorbing, rather like listening rather than talking. Very nice place to be. I like your architectural and travel shots very much. You might like to look at Michael O'Day re your own travel shots, which are wonderful in color and composition. He has developed a nice scrapbook technique you may enjoy. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for checking out my "Crabby Visitor." I went to take a picture of the Morning Glories and there he was, saying "take my picture," so i did. My morning glories have been spectacular this year and the color is fairly true. Since I see you like blue on red you might take a look at some of the other shots in my portfolio. I always enjoy visiting your site and the variety of subjects and shots. We have a number of similar shots - maybe that is why I like it so much. Have a good day. - Charles

Les, thanks for taking the time to critique and rework one of my igaes--I appreciate that.  I took a look at your portraits (street portraits, really, men and women) and I see where you are coming from and I personally prefer that natural style of portraiture rather than the Glamour/Elle  photo studio look--it's more human, IMHO.  I especially enjoyed the very politically correct/incorrect discussion under your Local Color image...fun reading!  Thanks, again and great portfolio.

I see you too have a passion for portraits - you have a great eye and you manage to capture a very natural and clean looking image.  It was great to spend time looking at your portfolio.  Regards from NZ, Steve

Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. You have a beautiful portfolio, many impressive images. My favorites are the "Fancy Dress" series but also the expression of the models.
Best regards.

Hi Les,
Thanks for visiting. Looking at your portfolio, I am inspired. Although I love to take pictures of people, my basic shyness prevents me from walking up to strangers and ask, "hey, can I shoot you?". But whenever I did manage to ask, they obliged with a smile! Now I shall try more, thank you. And I loved your sense of humor. Your biography and caption of one goat picture made me laugh aloud!

As I said in comments on your portraits: you use natural settings and light really well, and connect with your subjects well too, both are things I try to achieve in my portraits as well.

Wow. I am sorry I am just now noticing your portfolio. Very impressive work. Your portraiture is special. I heard discussions that there is the subject, the artist and the encounter. It is obvious you relate well to your subject. A very sensitive touch to your art.

Hi Les, thanks for stopping by my Christmas shot from New Hope. You have a great portfolio, looking at your bio and portfolio, it looks like we are not that far in local from each other and travel a lot of the same roads.
All the best. - Mark

Les-
One of the benefits of posting for critiques is "meeting" other photographers. I especially enjoyed this portfolio, perhaps because it is a reflection of many of my personal photographic interests… photographing elements, architectural details, the old and time worn (aka "rust rot and ruin" to some). I also very much enjoyed your re-enactors portfolio. I photographed my first two reenactments this spring, Revolutionary War era, and thoroughly enjoyed it. If I could find a time at Williamsburg when it wasn't crawling with tourists, I'd spend several days there. I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Hi Les

I get to your portfolio by viewing, the forum, about the lost and find negative file page, and haw seen the B&W image you attached to it. In the first impression, it was shockingly excellent street portrait, technically and composition wise too. It is so perfect, no wonder it is on film. So, I spend a good half an hour, viewing your images and have to say, you are a very good photographer with a very nice and colorful portfolio. Specially, your portraits is very nice and very good. I have never seen so colorful collection of characters, portraits before. Keep up the good works and congratulate to you. Thank you for sheering with us those images.
