Google Analytics

Scott M. Knowles , Nov 20, 2009; 09:49 a.m.

I posted an entry about some Web pages stall when loading, either not moving off the old page while connecting or loading, loads a blank page until it finishes, or loads the page and then stalls. Looking at some Web pages here which do stall, I noticed the Google analytics script is loaded in the front of the Web page. When this stalls, the Web pages stalls, leaving the spinning icon and nothing else. It was recommended (and by Google if I remember right) to put it at the bottom, just before the </body> tag, so it doesn't interfer with loading the contents of the Web page. I've found even Web pages for my and other Websites using Google analytics stalls trying to retrieve the information from Google. Just an observation, but maybe consider moving the script to the bottom, so we can at least stop the load and still use the Web page? Otherwise we wait or stop and reload.

I know that Jin is working on the issue. Trust in the Jin!

I understand, but it's also frustrating watching a partially loaded or blank screen waiting on ads or Google analytics, and all you can do is stop and reload, and hope it works better. There are days and times it seems a persistent problem and other days and times it non-existent, but it all dependent on where it loads things, and if it can't get them, like ads or Google, then it just sits there for 30 seconds to a minute, sometimes longer (occasionallyI can get a cup of coffee to come back and still see a spinning load icon).

I don't mind the ads or Google analytics, it's part of Photo.net. I see the delays with Google analytics on my own and other Websites using it. Not sure but Google doesn't seem to be quick anymore. I know the delays with the ads aren't Photo.net's fault. It's hard to filter them when they keep changing proxy servers and you have to keep adding URL's to the filter.

Sorry, mostly it's just an "Argh..." moment and issue. But fear not, I'll bide my time. Where did I put the coffee cup?

There isn't anyone who is ore frustrated than me about slow response from the site. Remember, I'm dealing with PN stuff 8+ hours a day every day.

So I completely understand the annoyance.
