Posts just vanish mid-composition

Herma Ornes , Jan 18, 2012; 02:23 a.m.

The first time it happened, I though it must have been me: In the midst of a thoughtfully composed reply to a post, the page went to the main photo.net page. Major bummer, because I had put it a lot of effort. I had a slight hope that maybe it had posted at least the half I had worked on... but no. Then, after recovering from my annoyance, I composed another reply... and again, in the midst of composing, the page just went poof, and again all my efforts gone. Now I am afraid to sit down and compose again. This has not happened before. Did I inadvertently hit some multi function button?

Afraid to reply

Just happened again 3rd time. Capitalizing? Spacebar? What makes it do that?
I can hit enter. Shift with the right hand... Left hand shiftbar ok. Backspace ok... It is too weird.

i can't think of anything that would have done that on our end.

Did it happen right after you had hit the "delete" button by any chance? Some browsers are set up so that delete is actually a "back" button that returns you to the previous page in some instances.

I have similar experiences... I type in a message in the response field, and suddenly, everything I have written is gone. starting over again... In fact, I had to click the mouse several times just being able to start writing this response. It could of course be my computer, but on the other hand, this does not happen on other sites I visit.

What browser are you all using?

Have you tried a different browser to see if the issue replicates itself?

Are you using the rich-text editor for forum posting (the one that has the little formatting buttons for bold, italics, etc)?

My own experience is while typing it suddenly changes to the fancy editor but as a result I am no longer 'in' the editing box so backspace throws me back out to the previous page

I use IE 9, and have only that. I use the editor with the little grey bar with the buttons, yes.

Josh, I may have one clue... I now see that suddenly the editor refreshes itself "midflight". Sometimes just immediately (hardly recognizable) after having clicked in the editor field to start typing, other times after little while (a second?)

The same happens when the editor emerges in the confirmation page, but then the text is included. I think the process of producing the button bar is delayed.

Happens to me too. If a response is more than just a few words, I write it in WORD, spell-check it and then paste it in.

I've sometimes had this, and it turned out I was accidentally pressing the mouse button on the left hand side which in internet explorer means 'go back a page'...
