Photo.net recommends 'pop-up'?

Anthea Scotte , Feb 11, 2012; 05:24 p.m.

Hi, just wondering if anyone else is getting a "photo.net recommends for you" 'pop-up'? I have attached a screen shot. When I clicked on it (it looks genuine so I thought I'd see what happens) it led to a phto.net forum thread so what's going on? There is a way to close the pop-up but I am curious as to why I'm getting these. So far this morning I've had two - both in the no-words forum I think. I checked my workspace and can't see anything there about it as a feature that I can turn on or off.
I'm using Firefox 6 and Windows 7. As I'm writting this another 'recommended for you' pop-up just popped up!

Photo.net recommends for you?

Annoying Thingie

I'm seeing it as well (on Safari) and I have to say that I don't like it. cb

Yes that's it Les - and guess what - again - it's on this page as I'm typing a response! It is annoying and also you can't even read it properly because the PN icon covers the words.....

Another annoyed member chiming in about corner pop-ups. Now I'm also getting "noise making" and misleading "you have mail" ads at the bottom of pages.

Paying members don't deserve this. Nor do any photo.net visitors in my opinion.

Relax, all. You can close it by clicking the little 'x' in the top right corner.

It is supposed to be there, we're working on the functionality and operation. Things in life are rarely perfect on the first try.

There is supposed to be an on/off switch, as there is for most any feature I add to photo.net, but it is not working at the moment. You will all just have to be patient please.

. Now I'm also getting "noise making" and misleading "you have mail" ads at the bottom of pages.

That is an entirely different issue. You should never see ads that make noise on photo.net. Please send me a screenshot and (if you feel like doing so) a right-click "copy link location" of where the ad wants you to go.

Send to contact@photo.net.

Josh: I really like the feature. Are the recommendations based on my past history of reading threads? It seems like they are, since the ones recommended so far have been of interest to me. Only thing that is odd is the photo.net icon interferes with the text.

I have seen this feature for a long time reading the NY Times online, and it is very helpful in my opinion.

Thanks for continuing to improve photo.net!

These pop-ups! ...
...another reason for me to refrain easily recommending photo.net to fellow photographers!
