Graceland

by Philip Greenspun; created 1994

Look to the right as you come in and there is a gracious living room with a piano in the background.

The coffee table caught my eye because of a beautiful "EP" glass sculpture.

A portrait of Elvis lines the stairs, but you can't go upstairs; that part of Graceland is forever closed to the public. Not even the tour guides have been there.

The decor gets a little more outre in the basement.

I liked the Jungle room the best so I took lots of pictures here.

Elvis built a special house just for his gold records and other trophies. Tour guides explain the significance of every portrait and relic. They also explain why Elvis took to wearing jumpsuits rather late in his career.

Elvis's grave and those of his immediate family are at the end of the Graceland mansion tour.

Back across the road, a special museum houses Elvis's car collection, including the Ferrari pictured below. There is also a comprehensive giftshop.

Elvis's Birthplace

If you surfed in here without reading my main story then you might have missed these pictures from Tupelo, Mississippi:

Taking Pictures Like These

The pictures on this page were created with a Canon EOS camera and 50/1.0 prime lens (a 50/1.4 would have been fine, especially with ISO 800 film). They are an example of "available light" photography, which is only possible with a lens capable of gathering a lot of light (otherwise you'd need to use the on-camera flash and that ruins everything).

You can learn how to take pictures like this by reading some of the other articles on this server. Here's a step-by-step program:

  1. Read Making Photographs, our free online photography textbook. Concentrate on the "Light" chapter.
  2. Read "What Camera Should I Buy?"
  3. Read "Where to buy a camera"
  4. Read film recommendations (unless you decided to choose a digital camera)
  5. Read laboratory recommendations
  6. Practice (repeat).

Elvis Books

These are some of the most interesting books about Elvis:

Elvis Dates

  • January 8, 1935: born Tupelo, Mississippi
  • July 1954: records first songs (for Sam Phillips)
  • 1956: "Heartbreak Hotel" released
  • 1958: drafted into the U.S. Army
  • 1960: discharged from the U.S. Army
  • 1970: made an honorary U.S. Drug Enforcement Agent by President Nixon
  • August 16, 1977: died Memphis, Tennessee

To "Insipid!" from Boston, and all those of his ilk: Do try not to be so hard on those with less important things on their minds. First, you deny them space (which you obviously crave) to speak their minds; next, they'll be looking at you through the sights of a high-powered rifle. Second, elitism begins with such ideas as "We must find a way to keep the 'common man' from cluttering the bandwidth with their inane drivel". If all we can hope for on the 'net is enlightened discourse from you (or me) then I say, "Pull the plug"... And finally, never forget, those with less on their mind outnumber you, and are seldom distracted from their... amusements... by loftier thoughts. If you know what I mean. Love and Kisses, "A Shot in the Dark"

What a great idea! I was really impressed. It is so refreshing to see a memorial without the references that he is alive and being spotted at some McDonald's; KMart, etc.

I grew up to Elvis music and never tired of his style. I think it is great to exemplify his strong points rather than dwell on his excesses. He was, after all, a very generous person. His lack of privacy was the very reason for the excesses that in the end caused his death. I say, let the King die in peace. Memorialze him but put a stop to the sightings, the hype to generate wealth for some fraud.

Robert T. Koenig , January 09, 1997; 12:09 P.M.

I drive a taxi in Memphis. During the summer, I spent many hours parked outside Graceland. Over the past three years, I have met hundreds of faithful Elvis fans from all over the world - Asia, Europe, Africa, South America and all across North America. I have seen the effect Elvis and his memory have on so many people who make a pilgrimage to Graceland. Its never so obvious as on "Vigil Night" when thousands of people live Elvis Presley Blvd. and file past Elvis' grave. With the upcoming 20th anniversary of his death, I am sure 1997 will see a larger crowd than usual. I just wish that the people who operate Graceland as a tourist attraction would do something to clean up the surrounding area. All the tacky souvenir shops, the crummy hamburger joints and the high price of touring Elvis' home leave a bad taste in the mouths of many first-time visitors. I think that Elvis himself would be ashamed if he knew that his home was being used to generate millions each year in revenues taken from his most loyal fans.

Randy Falcioni , January 25, 1997; 06:07 P.M.

I have been an Elvis fan for many years and can't explain the feeling I get everytime I hear him sing. I have every one of his movies and can watch them over & over. I always thought there was a special bond because our birthday's are one day apart. I was fortunate to have gone to Graceland a couple of years ago and felt a special feeling when I walked through it. There will only ever be one Elvis Presley.

Jimmie Moore , January 27, 1997; 08:12 P.M.

It is so wonderful to have a Memory Of Elvis site to visit and be able to share with other fans your thoughts and memories. I visited Graceland in 1988. The Junge Room was my favorite also. I would like to go for the 1997 anniversary, but don't know if I'll make it. I hate all those stupid books that all those whoevers have written, what people won't do for a buck. Great to have this spot to come to. Thanks!

Lynne Snyder , March 11, 1997; 12:07 A.M.

We were fortunate to have been in Elvis' audience three times, at the Spectrum, in Philadelphia, PA. We visited Graceland twice. Elvis is alive in our hearts and we are happy to have this site to kindle fond memories with other devotees of the undisputed king of rock and roll...Viva La Elvis! Lynne

Beverly May , March 23, 1997; 05:41 P.M.

I've loved Elvis since I was young. Iwas raised on his music, and have most of the movies off tv. I would like to know how to but good copies. I would love to visit Graceland after I graduate. I would love to meet Lisa to. I wish she would go on tv and tell everyone he's dead and to stop the nonsense.

Elizabeth Reif , June 22, 1997; 07:26 P.M.

I think that Elvis will live forever. Not physically, that's impossible, but his spirit is very much alive today and always will be. I've never had the opportunity to go to Graceland, but I hope I will get there one day. Every time a song by Elvis is played, every time a movie with Elvis in it is seen, every time someone dresses up like Elvis, every time a picture of him is shown, he comes back alive again. That is what life is all about-Elvis.

k james , August 16, 1997; 03:59 A.M.

If you are truly an Elvis fan, the trip to Memphis is well worth it. It's very hot in Memphis in the summer and crowded, so another time of year might like the trip more enjoyable. Graceland is in a very bad, run-down section of Memphis and is "tourist tacky", but once inside Graceland I got choked up seeing all of Elvis' personal possessions, especially his bedroom slippers for some reason. I would suggest the entire tour. Seeing how extravagantly Elvis lived was a kick--the planes and Stutz Bearcat automobiles were not so commonplace as they are today with celebrities. Make the pilgrimage. It's worth it.

Diane L Roberts , August 17, 1997; 01:36 P.M.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this site. I found your address in a magazine I got for my birthday(Aug 13) called "A Tribute To Elvis" published by the C to C Publishing Inc. I want to tell all your visitors here of an impersonator it has become my privilege to come to know. His name is Mike Albert, and he has taken the crowns in Memphis. He is, without a doubt, as close as you can get to the "real" thing. I have seen him in concert with the Jordanaires and J.D. Sumner and The Stamps. He is a christian man, who only wants to keep the memories of Elvis alive. He does not think he IS Elvis. His gospel renditions make cold chills go up and down my spine just as Elvis' did, and this tells me that the holy spirit is present. I am sure that Elvis would agree that this guy is doing a great job with his "Memories of Elvis" tributes. I guarantee that you will not go away from one of his shows feeling like you did not get your money's worth. He also has the same kind of charm and charisma that the King had. Long live the King! He will be with us always in our hearts. I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for this site. Good Work! Don't ever go away!

Belinda -- , August 17, 1997; 03:08 P.M.

I visited Graceland in 1995 and when I entered the doorway, all the years that I had wanted to be near him had come true! I had been worried that going to Graceland was not the right thing to do, but as soon as I went inside I could tell that it was ok with Elvis to be there. I cried not out of sadness, but out of joy. I feel Elvis' bedroom should never be open to the public, because that was his one place on earth that he had privacy. We need to let him rest in peace and a true Elvis fan would never do anything to hurt him. He lives in my heart and always will.

the way he loved us. Rest In Peace,

Jean -- , September 13, 1997; 11:59 A.M.

Hello, I am the Jean on the back of the album VEGAS FEVER. Hi to all Elvis fans worldwide.

patty delworth , October 11, 1997; 06:50 A.M.

I've just returned from my first visit to Graceland & I was struck by how the area around it hasn't become "Disneyized". There's a converted gas station to bar-b-q take out in the neighborhood & lots of the origional signs & businessses from his time. Hope it can stay stay that way.

tanya himanen , October 21, 1997; 12:39 A.M.

i am NOT an elvis fan, nor did i even want to go to graceland. i had better ideas...like the OzFest, or a good ol' Metallica concert or something. I finally had to go because i couldn't bear the annoying, bitching and frustrating comments of my peers. i gave in, but did not regret it. graceland was impressive, only because you realize how one person, a regular mortal, could have so much power/influence over the general public. he was KING.

archie crossan , November 14, 1997; 03:47 P.M.

i am an elvis fan; ie a fan of the music and of the man. going to graceland may be to some a superficial ambition but has a significance to me which i myself feel at a loss to express in words. Also, my long-suffering wife will be with me despite the fact that leonard cohen is more her "cup of tea" (still, everyone to their own, eh?) - which in fact states as clearly as i could do in any other way my own "obsession" and that of many others with all things Elvis.

REVELATIONS: The Elvis Presley Connection

This shocking, unbelievable but true autobiography is due to be released this Spring, 1998.

It involves a dream I had December/95, that played onto the streets of Halifax, Nova Scotia and into the life and legend of Elvis Aron Presley.

In the dream, I was told Elvis was hiding behind a long, dark building with lots of windows. In prayer and meditation, shortly after, I was told he was a Preacher, given the name of his church that played directly into the Yellow Pages, into four major Halifax/Nova Scotia connections in his life, a rumored report of his l977 motorcycle being found in Nova Scotia, headlined the Chronicle Herald, Sept/96 and led me to the long, dark building with lots of windows and the Preacher, who in his words, preached a "TENNESSEE', form of worship.

My story finally ended August l6,l997, on the 20th Anniversary of Elvis's death, through divine intervention, played twice into the media, as if to reassure any doubts I may have had, I was given the final missing piece to the puzzle.

Is Elvis dead or alive, I will let you be the judge.

I have loved Elvis since I was 13 and still do. He will always be in my heart. If I'm ever down, all I have to do is put on an ELVIS tape and in no time I'm on top. He will ALWAYS be alive in my heart. an Elvis fan forever!!!!!

Carol Hughes , December 25, 1997; 02:58 A.M.

I'm listening to an Elvis CD right now. The man had a beautiful voice! I can listen to him over and over and still get the most wonderful feeling. When I was about eight years old I had a dream Elvis and I got married, ever since then he has been my King! Sounds odd but his voice can make me just melt.

loretta caraker , January 30, 1998; 02:43 A.M.

I just don't understand it. I have been to Graceland (I was young---and drunk). Not only was Elvis essentially talentless, but his home is one of the tackiest I have seen. It looked like a mansion furnished with house trailer leftovers. He was a mediocre singer in his early days, but beyond that, what did he have. No musical or writing talent and not enough sense to choose good friends or business partners. The phenonmenon boggles my mind.

Pamela Hancock , February 28, 1998; 04:20 P.M.

I was a senior in hight school when Elvis died and I was on my way to my part time job when I heard the news on the radio. My mom had all his 45s and we always watched his movies, she expecially like him because she was from Memphis and felt a special kinship. I know Elvis is singing in Heaven right now and I can't wait til meet him someday, which I believe I will. Maybe we will be able to sing a duet together, who knows?

Terry Cowan , March 11, 1998; 10:18 P.M.

Just wanted to let you know, that my uncle Ralph Cowan painted the portrait of Elvis in the white jump suit!

Have just been revisiting my youth with some vintage nostalgia, but am longing to visit the home of the king. I am now desparately in need of guidance in my preparation for the second coming, which I now feel is iminent. This is the full Elvis diet, which I need the recipies for. Any fans with an eager appetite for the Kings diet who would like to share the secret of the menu please let me know. Peace and love to all those who share in the passion.

tim edwards , April 26, 1998; 11:25 A.M.

I live only a few miles from Lisa Marie Presley's home in Clearwater Florida and she has the name Hubberd,s engraved on the eight foot high wall surrounding her home. For all those nieve people out there who don't know who Ron L. Hubberd is, He is the founder of the church of Scientolgy.A religious cult. What a lousy Tribute to her Father ELVIS A. PRESLEY. The least she could do is pay respect to her father and put the presley name on her home. It's not the church of Scientolgy that is supplying her a lifelong inheritence just a tax write-off.

Wayne Aaron D'Sylva , May 12, 1998; 06:53 P.M.

Elvis Aaron Presley is the greatest performer of all time. I have grown up listening to the King of Rock N Roll and his music never gets old. He inspires me to greatness and will forever remain the greatest entertainer of all time (far better than the Beatles).

Bruce springstein said it best when he said, "There have been many contenders, but their is only one King."

michael pustaver , May 19, 1998; 12:27 A.M.

I was one of those fans that was alwas looking for some reason to beleive that Elvis was just in hiding. The short time time that I lived in memphis I was lucky enough to make friends with friends of Elvis. I won't use names but I was told in person that Elvis died of bone cancer. From one of the persons that said it I know it to be the truth. This same information came from two others. This does make sense now to me on why his weight was alwas up and down.

P. Koland , August 04, 1998; 01:30 A.M.

I grew up in Memphis and was only 7 when Elvis died, but I remember it vividly. I still have the special edition newspaper from the day after he died. At my wedding a few years ago my husband and I danced to "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You". We plan to return to Memphis in Dec. and visit Graceland. He will always be great, no matter how tacky Graceland may be, or how distorted his image may be to some. He is still the King.

Pauras Kolah , August 16, 1998; 10:40 A.M.

I am a great fan of Elvis Presley & his music, who has not had the opportunity as yet to visit his home town nor his home. This Site runs a great second place (although is obviously no substitute for the real thing!). I started in business in England jsut selling just Elvis AUTHENTIC memorabilia from the 50s to 70s, and was amazed at the response. That was 6/7 years ago. I have just now gone onto the Web (www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~aimgroup). We believe that it's a good site - but please email us with your thoughts & opinions. We'd love to hear from all loyal fans of THE KING from all over the world (whether or not you want to buy).

Irish Elvis , September 21, 1998; 11:12 P.M.

My name is Joey Irish Elvis Stevenson I'm a professional boxer who is the son of Elvis although Elvis denied all relationships with my mom I am still proud to be the son of Elvis. On every fight I'm announced as the Irish Elvis and my Daddy s songs inspier me to do what I do. I will soon be a world champion and proud of where I came from

KITTY -- , November 07, 1998; 09:56 A.M.

Well, peoples, what can I say? I love Elvis with all my damn heart. I like, know everything about him.Not the obvious crap like everybody else knows.Nope, not that! I know the real stuff, man! Sincerely,KITTY KONE

Bob Rizzo , November 09, 1998; 12:05 A.M.

I visited Graceland in 1993 and your site has convinced me to see it again in "99. There are a lot of sites that mock Elvis so it is nice to click on to a true tribute. Thanks and keep up the good work. For the non-fans and naysayers - Stop, Look and LISTEN!

Kathy B. , November 10, 1998; 03:50 P.M.

I was born the year Elvis' career took off. As a little girl, I grew up with an unconscious, preconceived idea of the ideal man...and that was Elvis. Although I've only owned about 2 or 3 Elvis records/tapes in my life and I had never been to any of his concerts, there is no denying the impact that Elvis had, no matter how subliminal, on my formative years. I believe that I can say this not only for myself but for a whole generation...and then some. Elvis was truly a gifted man...in talent, charisma, and personality. His impact on our culture is unsurpassed by anyone in this century.

Years ago, a friend of mine and I took a trip across country, and on the way back, we stopped at Graceland in Memphis. Unfortunately, we arried on the only day of the week that Graceland was closed. I may never get to see Graceland in person, so I truly appreciate those who share their photos of Elvis' home and grounds on their web sites. It's a loving tribute to one of the most influential personalities of our time.

Lorna Rae Gerten , November 20, 1998; 12:15 A.M.

I just wanted to say I am 42 years old and I have been an Elvis Fan since I first saw him, on television when I was eight years old, No one could understand what I saw in him, But I always have been A Fan and Always will be. Now I have Two sisters that feel the same way, although it took them a long time before they started to enjoy him. I love his voice, and as an actor I think he was a sex symbol, but what I loved most of all and I feel I saw as a child, is he had a loving sprit and it showed in all his work. And I know someday I will get to meet that great sprit in the sky. Love A Fan Lorna Rae Gerten

Minna Huotari , February 09, 1999; 06:51 A.M.

I'm from Finland and I'm 20 years old. I like the music of Elvis very much! I have listen Elvis since my friend played his plates, about three years. The very first time heard the music of Elvis, was very attractive for me and I though this music is really good...

Lynda Crampton , March 02, 1999; 10:09 P.M.

This is sooo tacky, right up there with the Jolly green giant or the Road Kill Cafe. We have a lot of tacky in Canada, but we sure do not have a spectacle like Graceland !!!

Ted Hanulak , March 18, 1999; 03:17 P.M.

I feel sorry for Elvis. In his life, he never had what we all had, an Elvis. Think about how much Elvis has influenced our culture. Now try to imagine what it must have been like to have been "Elvis". Sometimes its better to be the one listening and not the one singing.

Charles Charalambous , March 20, 1999; 11:29 P.M.

I am now living in Limassol, Cyprus, after moving here from the UK. Wherever i'll go Elvis is with me in my heart and in my ears. Forever ELVIS....

To all fans out there, "Loving Elvis brings another day to look forward to".

Although I have never been to Graceland, this is a trip I WILL DO even if I have to walk there.

my mom and i just visited graceland yesterday and we are curious as to why elvis' middle name is mis-spelled on everything including his grave. has anyone else ever questioned this obvious error?

Elvis Fan Lisa , May 03, 1999; 12:06 P.M.

Are you ready for this? Either spelling right and either spelling is wrong. But, how can that be? Elvis was named after his father, Vernon Elvis Presley, and Mr. Presley's good friend in Tupelo, Aaron Kennedy. Aron was the spelling the Presleys chose, apparently to make it similar to the middle name of Elvis' stillborn identical twin, Jesse Garon Presley. Jesse was apparently named after Vernon's father, Jessie Presley, although the spelling was slightly different...

Toward the end of his life, Elvis sought to change the spelling of his middle name to the traditional and biblical Aaron. In the process he learned that official state records had inexplicably listed it as Aaron, and not Aron as on his original birth records. Knowing Elvis' plans for his middle name, Aaron is the spelling his father chose for Elvis' tombstone, and it's the spelling his estate has designated as the official spelling when the middle name is used today.

Please E-mail me any information to my E-mail address.

I HAVE FOLLOWED ELVIS SINCE I WAS OLD ENOUGHT TO KNOW WHAT MUSIC WAS, I HAVE SEEN HIM THREE (3) TIMES IN MY LIFE AND EVERY TIME WAS BETTER THEN THE LAST, THERE WILL NEVER EVER BE ANOTHER ONE OR PERSON LIKE THE KING,AND I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THERE WILL EVER BE ANYONE WHO WILL DO FOR MUSIC WHAT HE WAS ABLE TO DO OR WHAT HE DID FOR THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE TO GO TO GRACELAND TWICE SO FOR AND I FEEL IT ID SHOWN AND KEPT AS ELVIS WOULD HAVE WANTED IT TO BE, THE ONLY THING I'D LIKE TO SAY IS THAT I MYSELF DO NOT BELIEVE THAT HE DIED WHEN THEY SAY HE DID,WHY BECAUSE THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS DEATHSO I BELIEVE HE JUST WANTED A PERSONAL LIFE WHICH WAS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN IF HE STAYED IN THE SPOTLITE,SO I NELIEVE HE DID WHAT HE HAD TO DO TO GET WHAT HE WANTED AND WHO ARE WE TO BLAME HIM HE WAS AND STILL ONLY HUMAN AND WANTED ONLY WHAT WE ALL WANT AND THAT IS TO LIVE OUR LIFE AS WE SEE FIT AND NOT TO BE CONTROLED BY ANYONE OF ANYTHING SO I GUESS HE DID IT HIS WAY AS HE SANG OBOUT AND I SAY MORE POWER TO HIM AND HE HAD EVERY RIGHT TO DO WHAT HE FELT WAS THE BEST FOR HIS LIVE SO I GUESS ALL THAT'S LETH TO SAT IS GO ELVIS AND LONG LIVE THE KING AND GOD BLESS TILL WE SEE YOU AGAIN, WEHERE EVER THAT MAY BE. Elvis influenced many, including myself, when shortly after my car accident left me permanently paralyzed from the neck down in 1984, I encountered him in a dream telling me to go on, pursue things that normally I wouldn't have taken the time for, uninjured. I awoke the next morning, encouraged, and have since then written a novel, movie script and countless songs and poems. Generous to a fault, Elvis still reaches out helping others, through his music, inspiration and tough path to the top. From humble beginnings he has inspired many faced with adversity or life changing events. Dave July, 1999

I think anyone that said ELVIS is not alive should keep there opinion to themself Because I think He is ELVIS will be back in the year 2000. ELVIS is KING in my world I love you ELVIS....

jenny Mae , August 16, 1999; 10:50 A.M.

I have been a fan since the fifth grade. I have had my own fan club, "Good Luck Charm" back in the seventies. On this day of his 22 yr anniversary of his death...I'm still saddened to have lost this beautiful soul. Elvis was and still is the Greatest Entertainer of all time. He was not only beautiful on the outside but on the inside as well. He was a very generous man.

Is he dead??? Yes I believe so....But his music will live forever and he will live in our minds, our memories. And if he is not as some believe, he obviously wants to be alone....He gave so much to us...his wishes should be granted, let him be.

Elvis gave us his best years and it cost him a great deal in his personal life...Elvis...I miss you and I still love you babe...I know you hated this term...But You are "The King" of Rock-n-roll!!! Thanks for the memories...the music...for you.

Taking Care of Elvis, Jenny

I have always been a fan of Elvis i've seen every movie he made my personal favorite was flamming star except for the end when he died. My Mother was a big fan also she was born the same month and same year just a few days apart. Mom also passed away two years before Elvis and i like to think Mom & Elvis finally got to meet not in graceland but in the promiseland. It has been 22 years since his death and people still love him. It is obvious that he will ALWAYS be KING!

Stephen Tiley , September 08, 1999; 07:05 P.M.

I'll never forget the day I heard the news of his death, just like how they say everyone remembers what they were doing when the news about Kennedy being shot came over the airways.

I could never sing but enjoy trying to sing Elvis songs, especially those classics like 'Suspicious Minds' and 'My Boy'.

If the Colonel had only trusted Elvis to tour the UK!

We all miss him over in the UK!

Stephanie Croy , September 20, 1999; 12:42 A.M.

I was upstairs at Elvis Presley's Memphis when Lisa Marie was. I've heard this and that about her but when you actually see her, you see a girl who lost her father. When the Elvis "impersonator" sang, she immediately went to the balcony and just stared. Her kids were down below dancing, having a good time, but growning up without their grandfather. When I toured Graceland the next day, we spoke to one of the tour guides who said Lisa Marie is always at Graceland, wishing for one more moment with him. I think people have forgotten that someone's life had ended and it didn't spare the feelings of a child.. now a woman. When you hear that Elvis would "turn in his grave" about whatever Lisa has done, I can honestly say I doubt it. I think he'd see anything for just an hour more with his daughter. I think Lisa is a beautiful woman and deals with the death of her father in her own way.. just because she doesn't do what the public thinks she should for her mourning, doesn't mean she isn't. The bum wrap Priscilla has gotten over the years is ridiculous, just remember it took two to bring the marriage down. If it wasn't for her, you wouldn't be able to buy the Elvis mug that sits on your mantle. Don't point fingers... we're all human.

It must be hard for Lisa Marie to live her life out in front of the public but I guess that is the price you have to pay for being the daughter of someone famous. My family room with all its Elvis posters, photos, signs, etc. pays tribute to this man and his remarkable career. All I know is that here in the Krapf household......Elvis will always be king!!!!!!

the KING of R & R

Elvis Presly had about as much to do with real rock and roll as Liberace did. All the while the pretty white boy was ripping off artists who could fit him into their back pockets...Elvis was a blatent product of the media...just like everything in the good 'ol US of A. Nothin but a great big crock 'o shit... White Jelly Fungus

There will be piece piece in the valley for me someday and when I face the finale curtain I'll do it my way. " without a song the world would never be without a song."

Elvis , was a special spirit! Born to nothing,as per, needed things! But , his parents loved him, and did what they could!as we all do!The pressure, later, was to great for him to bear, and drugs, took his life!We all know that! How could any human, bear the fact of being the King? most people worshiped him like god or christ!and he wanted , just to be a normal human, and sing!and be liked! To much for one person to take!We will never know, the stress hes been thru, to be the KING! I DO LOVE YOU! ELVIS! FOR GIVING US YOUR LIFE!TO MAKE US HAPPY! YOUDID,AND NOW ALWAYS ,WILL! LOVE EV!

CARROLL STEVENSON , November 16, 1999; 12:33 A.M.

I LOVED ELVIS ALMOST AS MUCH AS MY OWN DAD, PROBABLY BECAUSE MY DAD WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER LOOKED SO MUCH LIKE ELVIS. ELVIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY IDOL. I NAMED MY SON ROBERT AARON BECAUSE THAT WAY ELVIS WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART MIND & SOUL. MY MOTHER WAS BORN IN 1937 AND GREW UP LOVING ELVIS ,SHE USED TO TELL ME STORIES ABOUT THE LIFE OF ELVIS I WAS VERY INTERESTED THEN & EVEN MORE SO NOW. THE REASON I AM WRITING THIS NOW IS AS A DEDICATION TO MY MOM (05-17-37 TO 01-10-98)AND ELVIS THE ONE AND ONLY KING! MY MOM WAS NEVER LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE ELVIS IN PERSON,BUT SHE KEPT HER PROMISE TO HIM,SHE PROMISED TO LOVE HIM TO THE DAY SHE DIED AND SHE DID. SHE COLLECTED ALOT OF ELVIS MEMORALBILA AND I OWN IT ALL NOW. I JUST HAVE ONE MORE THIN TO SAY,I WILL TAKE UP WHERE MY MOM LEFT OFF I WILL LOVE YOU ELVIS TILL THE DAY I DIE. THIS IS FOR YOU MOMMA I LOVE AND MISS YOU LOADS. LOVE YOUR ELVIS FAN DAUGHTER CARROLL

I am a 33 year old male, and I guess I got my facination with Elvis through my mother. Hearing stories from her and my dad because my dad was a musician during that time and we live only 70 miles from Memphis. My statement I want to make is that Elvis loved people for there hearts, he didn't care about money, he loved you for who you were. He is probably the only star that gave so much of his self to his fans. He lived on a constant high of making people happy. Yes, you read stories from his inner circle that he did wild things, but if you really think about it he, was a kid starting out that grew into a adult and he never got to experiece what a normal person would be like growing up normal. He had plenty of money, women, material things, and everything a star could ask for. He had many hobbies like collecting badges, karate, collecting cars, planes, guns. But with being a star, you have problems also, and I think to a certain degree Elvis wanted toward the end to be normal but he couldn't. The lifestyle he created of staying up all night and sleeping all day, taking uppers and downers, eating to excess, not having the solid love from a female that he needed since his mother passed away, all created to his downfall. Every person you have heard from in his circle will tell you that he loved a challenge, wether that challenge was a concert tour, his Hawai televised concert, or whatever, the point is, it was something that he could focuse on and achieve. At the end he was losing his drive, his desire to look good, basically his desire to live. And I know he was the type of person that just anybody couldn't stand up and say Elvis look, get you grap together. I know Sunny and Red tried in their book but it failed, to some degree it was really to late. Like they said, how do you save a person from their self. I think back now and wonder if Parker could have stepped in early in his start of taking drugs and really talked to him. I know he tried stopping the doctors from prescibing

i too have been to graceland many times. i fell in love with the come-back special king. i was 13. i kept it a secret for many years and at 40 let loose. i got an elvis tattoo on my ankle in memphis. from there it was all over. i began collecting all different types of momentos. from expensive to the cheap and tacky-- friends and relatives all know what to give as gifts. most of all i have given them even if they won't admit it a new found fun and joy listening, dancing and even exercising to elvis--my desk at work at a prominent St. Louis University is covered in Elvis--the college students love it and conversation is always made over it-- thanks again Elvis-- you were your own worst enemy. what made you so great also cost us a lot. i wish you were here so i could meet you and hear you sing-- keep singing with the angels.

I was only eight months old when Elvis died. So I never had the priviledge of seeing him in person that many people did. Growing up my mama played Elvis records every Saturday while she was cleaning the house. So in a different way than most fans, I grew up on his music too. I am a huge Elvis fan. And I will always love him. Not only the idol, but the man. Every one remembers him as the sex symbol in the jumpsuits, with the sideburns and those outlandish glasses. I must admit that I do too. However, there was a real person under all that "get-up." I get so tired of the hypocites who criticize him and his life. Elvis once said, "Don't criticize what you don't understand son, you never walked in that man's shoes." I think we all should take his advice. I believe only one perfect person has ever walked this earth. And none of us are Jesus Christ. What is it with all these people that speak of Graceland being tacky. First of all the man died in 1977. You can't waltz into his house and expect it to be decorated in a 90's theme. The decorations in his home are over 20 years old. If that were to get changed, it wouldn't be Elvis. So what if his home may be different. It is still his home, his personality, his life. Who is anyone to walk into somebody else's house and tell them that it's tacky. I'm sure that Elvis wouldn't give a damn about anyone else's opinion. I know I don't. Furthermore, these people that say that he didn't have any musical talent must be deaf in one ear and can't hear with the other one. The man had a voice that will just give you chillbumps. Lastly I would just like to say that Elvis was a very generous person. He gave and gave and never asked for anything in return. I never realized the full extent until I did my term paper on him in highschool. If these people would just read into his life. They would probably stop judging him. Unfortunately, that probably will never happen. Judging their statements, they are too ignorant to be that open minded. I think this site is wonderful. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!

I AM 29 YEARS OLD, AND ELVIS HAS BEEN A PART OF OUR FAMILY LIFE SINCE MY BIRTH AND WAY BEFORE. I CAN REMEMBER GROWING UP AND ALWAYS HAVING ELVIS ON THE RADIO. ELVIS WAS A VERY BRILLIANT MAN AND HAS MADE AN IMPRESSION ON MANY LIVES. MY FAMILY IS PLANNING TO VISIT GRACELAND IN AUGUST AND HAS BEEN A LIFE LONG DREAM. MY CHILDREN, AGES,5-8-10 ARE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE TRIP AND ABSOLUTLY LOVE ELVIS' MUSIC. MY DAD LISTENS TO IT WHEREEVER HE IS AND HAS ALOTTTTTTTTTT OF MEMORIABLIA OF ELVIS. EVERYTIME I GO TO A FLEAMARKET AND SEE SOMETHING WITH ELVIS ON IT,I GET IT FOR HIM. MY SISTER WHO IS 30 HAS EVERYONE- FROM 1ST TO LAST OF HIS RECORD ALBULMS. SHE WAS A HUGE FAN, AND CRIED DEEPLY WHEN HE PASSED AWAY. "I CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU" WAS OUR WEDDING SONG IN OCTOBER 1999. ELVIS MIGHT BE GONE, BUT HIS MUSIC AND MEMORY LIVE FOREVER. MY DEEPEST THOUGHTS TO LISA MARIE, AND HER CHILDREN. I MUST SAY LISA MARIE IS A SPITTING IMAGE OF HER DAD. SHE OUGHT TO BE VERY PROUD TO HAVE BEEN BORN TO SUCH A RESPECTED MAN. GOD BLESS ALL ELVIS FANS......................

GRACELAND

Cool site, but the tour is better now. I visited Graceland April 11-13, 2000 and they just strap a tape recorder on you now and you can go thru at your own pace. It was great to see the house, cars, jets, plus the new restaurant on Beale street and Sun records, too. To all of you Elvis naysayers out there: Elvis did not invent rock 'n roll, but he brought it to mainstream America and paved the way for all who followed. Give the man some credit! TCB

My husband and I visited Graceland in January (on Elvis' birthday) and again in May (Labor Day) of this year. It was so cool to be walking through his beautiful mansion! Knowing that Elvis stood in the same spots that I stood in, was just unbelievable. He was truly a gifted and talented man. I don't believe nobody will ever have his unique voice. He was a one of a kind. I wonder though, when he was born...if his twin brother would have lived...would they have been identical? The world would have had 2 KINGS! I wish that his life hadn't been taken so quickly. There will never be another! But through his music and his place in our hearts...HE WILL LIVE FOREVER! Rest in Peace Elvis! Your Fans still know your #1 and the KING!

Ron Stecher , June 19, 2000; 08:32 P.M.

I just visited Graceland for the first time last month. I was quite impressed at how modest his home was. As for the comments on how tacky it was, like Jackie said "It was the 70's" so what do you expect? I especially like Elvis' later material. It's amazing how one man can command so much attention 20+ years after his death. There will never be another superstar as big as Elvis. As a matter of fact, he's a bigger star dead than any artist alive today. I can't think of anyones house I'd pay money to tour with the exception of Sinatra.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT THIS IS A GREAT WEB SITE OF ELVIS. I AM ONLY 16 YEARS OLD AND I LOVE ELVIS. HE WAS THE GREASTEST KING AND THE ONE AND ONLY KING. ELVIS WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART, SOUL, AND MIND. I JUST STARTED A COLLECTION OF ELVIS AND MY PARENTS ARE TAKING ME TO SEE GRACELAND. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!! I CAN SEE THAT I WILL LOVE IT THERE. ELVIS IS MY IDOL AND I WOULD HAVE DONE ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MEET HIM. BUT THERE IS ONE THING THAT I CAN SAY AND THAT IS I WILL BE ABLE TO SEE HIM THE DAY THE LORD COMES FOR ME. I LOVE YOU ELVIS AND ALWAYS WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE CRYSTAL OSWALD

Lynn Jones , July 07, 2000; 08:26 P.M.

After many years of wishing, I finally made it to Graceland with my wonderful "DAD".On June 7, 2000, we arrived in Memphis. We stood in awe of Graceland and the "wall" for several hours. It seemed like it was only a dream. We are both big Elvis fans. Elvis died when I was only four years old, but his music always played in the house. To this day Elvis songs echo in the hallways of my home with my family. When the gates opened to Graceland for my father and I, my tears fell for so many reasons, we had finally made it, our dreams were coming true... and as I passed through those gates, I could feel his presence so strongly. We were actually walking through the place Elvis called home. That was about as close to him as I could get. How I wished he were still walking through that house. His voice is magical, it can touch you deep inside your soul, have you dancing through your house or lift you when you're down. Yes he will always be the "King". I am proud to have brought my dad there and so proud to be an Elvis fan. Whether Elvis is alive or not at this point is irrelevant, if he is in hiding, then he doesn't want to be found, give him what he never had after he became famous- a normal life. If he is dead, may he rest in peace and please be waiting there at the gates for me when it's my time !! I hope to return to Graceland every year if I can and hopefully my father will be by my side. Elvis is one strong bond we share. One day I will bring my two children there and show them all about the amazing voice they hear at home, Elvis Presley. I miss you terribly and wish you were here. I will end by saying to my father, " Daddy, I love you very much and I hope I made you a very happy man. June 7, 2000 was one of the happiest days of my life, I am so proud you're my dad. And, thanks for playing Elvis songs all those years, you gave me a musical gift to last a lifetime.

Lynn Jones

Lynn Jones , July 07, 2000; 10:58 P.M.

"GRACELAND WAS DEFINITELY THE HOME FIT FOR THE KING !!" Daddy, Thanks for five days I'm sure we will never forget. Getting to Graceland may have been that "mountain" we were given to climb, but we did it ! I can't wait to bring you back and experience all those wonderful emotions again. Being there with you was so very special. Yes we really did it, we were Taking Care of Business in a flash. I love you dad. I will cherish the memories of June 7-11, 2000, for the rest of my life. T.C.B Dad, now and forever. Elvis will remain our King til the end of time. " You're always on my mind, dad." Graceland awaits us.... we shall return. " Tell the folks back home this is the Promised Land calling and the poor boy is on the line " and we will stay until it's time for us to go. ELVIS, you are adored, loved, idolized and praised more than you could have ever possibly imagined. You were about more than just your heavenly voice, you were a wonderful human being. L.J.

Lynn Jones , July 08, 2000; 12:35 P.M.

This is to address the negative comments on this site ; For those who thought he was talentless, please explain all his fans... 50 million+ ELVIS fans can't be wrong. The mansion is not tacky... it was furnished beautifully with the current furniture of that time. ELVIS had wonderful taste... in EVERYTHING. The Elvis phenomenon is not difficult to understand. Elvis had a voice that changed the nation; it moved people. He was a kind and generous person, gave away more money during his lifetime than he had when he died. He always tried to make people happy, bestow gifts upon them... probably not realizing the greatest gift he had given was his voice. There are many "STARS" today, who will never hold a candle to Elvis Presley; his voice, his talent, kindness, love and appreciation toward his fans. There is one King in this world and he sure isn't in England. Elvis Presley may have left the building, but he is forever within my heart. Going to Graceland with my father was some of the BEST money I have ever spent. It put me in touch with the incredibly gifted singer I had listened to all my life. To look around and see where he watched television, where he ate, rode his horses... well, it was very intense emotionally. No one should judge Elvis by what stories have been told about him, the drugs etc., not until YOU'VE WALKED A MILE IN HIS SHOES. People think Elvis had it all because he had money and fame... but he didn't have a normal life, which us everyday people take for granted. I believe the loss of his mother, the divorce from his wife, distance from his daughter and the pressures of success were overwhelming for him. He was only human. Elvis, no matter what they say, YOU DID IT YOUR WAY, and I think you did just fine. You were a blessing to us all. Thanks for giving us the beautiful gift of your voice, it will be cherished forever. You really TOOK CARE of BUSINESS in a flash ELVIS... and you did it with style and grace. My father and I know what we are talking about when we say...there could never and will never be another Elvis. When God made him he threw away the mold. T.C.B.

ELVIS #1 FOREVER AND EVER AMEN!!!

Buck Fell , July 19, 2000; 05:22 A.M.

The reason you're not allowed upstairs at Graceland is that Elvis lives there, with another family member. He's balding, overweight, and is good to us for staying out of sight so we can remember the lithe, handsome youthful Elvis. He can now go where he wants. He's no longer such a prisoner to his fame. How he comes and goes, is a mystery to me. There're always fans at the front of Graceland. Tunnel toward the back?

When the day comes that you're allowed upstairs, it will be after he has actually died. Peace to Elvis. He deserves it. Let's leave him alone!

My first trip to Graceland was January 4, 1996. I stood at the gates for close to an hour, admiring the mansion with all the lights on throughout and imagining Elvis walking out the front door and down the drive to greet me at the gates, as he had done thousand of times before. The next day, I actually toured the mansion for the first time, and once again I stood at the foot of the stairs, and could see Elvis coming toward me, and saying,"I'm so glad you're here! I want to show you Graceland." Elvis was always the first and best tour guide of his home; his sanctuary he was so very proud of.

I have been to Graceland three times since then, and it still amazes me how I feel the presence of Elvis within the rooms. He is physically gone, but his spirit is very much alive...and always will be. Long live the KING!!!!

At that time the house was blocked off.My family and i went to a little shop, just down the street..bought a little box that had a picture of Elvis on it..to this day i still have that box!

I am only 24 years old but going to Memphis to see Graceland was the biggest, most important event in my life. I have been an Elvis fan since I was fifteen and most people are shocked. They just can't believe somone my age loves Elvis so much-but I do. I wish I was old enough to have seen his live performances. I would give anything to be able to go back in time and catch one of his Vegas shows. He was the best! There will never be anyone like him. This web site brought back all the happy memories of my trip and all the emotions true fans feel when you get to walk through that famous front door. Thank you!

Susie Que , September 30, 2000; 06:59 P.M.

I am 16 years old, and will never ever forget my trip to Graceland. Man what a time! Many people are shocked when they find out how crazy I am over Elvis Presley! I love everything from the 50's and 60's and Elvis is at the top of the list! I was born in Memphis,in the Elvis Presley Trauma Center. My dad lived in memphis back in the 50's and followed Elvis around before Elvis became really well known. He also did refridgeration repair at graceland. He tells me where all the hangouts of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and many country stars hung out. I feel such a close relation to the man known as King! My dad reminds me alot of Elvis. My dad is 2 years older than him, was born in mississippi, has that chirisma, and southern charm that all the women love, that elvis had as well. He also drives a white Caddilac! haha. I visit memphis almost once every month. I have only been to Graceland once. On my very 1st trip, i started crying when i got there. i couldn't believe i was actually at Elvis Presley's House. Sure millions people had been there before me, and there would continue to be milloions of people go after me, but i didn't care. i was finally there! i hope to go again in october and maybe this time my dad will come along, since he didn't take the tour with me the first time. it's been over 15 years since he stepped foot in graceland. And that was when a friend came down to vist! it will again be a trip i will never ever forget! I wish that everyone knew my father! If Memphis and Elvis, and the 50's enthuzies you, then he is your man! haha!!!!!

Sherrie Richardson , October 08, 2000; 09:08 P.M.

I was finally able to visit Graceland, this year in Feb. for my 35th birthday...Best one ever! Made turning 35 great...ha..Graceland is beautiful and has a very fitting name. I could easily see why it was such a haven for Elvis and his family. I thought it was very tasteful in that it was not overly extravegant with blatent riches. It shows that Elvis was a very humble person and always remembered where he came from. He was a truly remarkeable entertainer and human being all in one. I was only 12 when we lost him...and would have loved the chance to meet him. But he will forever live on in the music he left for everyone to enjoy.

jasmine wyjeokoski , December 08, 2000; 08:43 A.M.

Okay folks, let's get real, here. No one loved Elvis more than I did and more than anything i'd like to believe that he is still alive. If I had even the smallest of hope I would be camped outside the burger king right now, just for one last look. But Elvis is dead, folks, and this is why I am so sure. Elvis died on the pot with his keester pointing straight up at the sky and his nose broken from the fall. Now, if you were going to stage your own death, is this the way you would want people to remember you going out? More to the point, lets think about Elvis and the man that he was. He had an enormous amount of pride. Would he have chosen this way to exit this world. To forever be remembered throughout history as the king who toppled from his throne with his jammeys around his ankles? I'm pretty sure he would have figured out a better way to go. He might have set it up to look as though he died in a shoot out, representing himself as a Drug Enforcement Agent, flashing that badge that Nixon gave him as he singlehandedly fought the war on crime. He might have lost his life when his plane burst into flames with a fiery explosion while delivering food to starving children in some third world country. He might have been taken out by some jealous husband who didn't appreciate his wife keeping a picture of the king under her pillow for the entirety of their married lives. Yes, there are many ways he might have chosen to go, but falling off the toilet into a heap of dead weight to be ultimately discovered by family and friends and paramedics would probably not have been his first choice. Unless it was one last statement to a world who took and took and took from him, until he became a prisoner in his own home and in his own mind. Unless it was his final "Thank you very much, you've been a beautiful audience,". Unless it was just his own special way of telling a hard cruel world to KISS HIS ASS! No, folks, much as I loved him, and much as I would like to believe otherwise, Elvis is dead. Elvis has left the building!

Pamela Plemmons , January 21, 2001; 06:52 P.M.

I have been a fan of Elvis for over 20 years, and I can say the best memories I have of him, was the time in May of 1998 when my husband took me to Graceland. I couldn't beleive my eyes that I was actually there, and that it took us 3 days from Maine to do so. I cried my eyes out as we entered the gate, but these were tears of joy. To actually enter the King's house was a dream come true. Those memories will stay with me for the rest of my life, and with memories like these ones, you only need to go once coulds these are memories you never forget. And also I can actually say that Elvis invited me to his house, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I have never had the opportunity to go to Graceland...I would LOVE to....We did, however get to go to a Memories show that had a beautiful tribute to Elvis. The performer was GREAT!!!! When a video of Elvis in concert was played behind the performer...you could see how much work he had put into the performance! His moves were almost perfect with Elvis' throughout the show.I was amazed that someone would work that hard to be that perfect in a tribute show! The pictures here are great and I've seen a video tour of Graceland, but that is never as good as the real thing....someday, I will get there to see for myself how beautiful it really is. Elvis will be around forever for a lot of us...in his music, his movies.....Pigeon Forge, TN has a nice museum dedicated to Elvis.....if you are ever there, it's worth the time and money to go through it.

Hello Elvis Fans, My husband suprised me with a trip to Graceland in April 2000. Although he wasn't a Elvis fan he went with me anyways. Not thinking he was going to like it. He came back wanting to go back to Graceland. Just knowing Elvis lived there was unbeliveable. We stood at The Heartbreak Hotel, it was so cool. We are planning another trip to Graceland, but this time we will take our time going through the tour, since you can take all the time you want. Elvis will live forever in our hearts.

I would like to point out that there's only one white king of R'n'R, but there are over a hundred black originals. Try exporing Elvis' blues (and soul) roots, also see the contribution of 29-09-99. After exploring South Africa and Cuba, Memphis and New Orleans are at the top of my list. I visited Graceland last spring. I was taking my family to visit some Civil War battlegrounds and antebellum mansions in Mississipi. I wasn't planning to stop at Graceland, but we stayed overnight in Memphis and we needed something to do before our long drive back to Illinois, so we decided to tour the home. It was great!

I had two insights. The first was that Presley was modest. After seeing example after example of conspicuous consumption in the south, I could recognize that he was spending money to give his family and friends a good time, not to impress people with his wealth. Although some of the decorations seem funny now, it was in fashion during his life. It did not look like the house of a major Hollywood star.

The second was how dangerous fame and fortune are. If anybody could have escaped them without damage, Elvis should have. He was talented but modest, sharing, loyal. If any 23 year old had his head on right, he did. And yet fame and fortune did him in. He was destroyed by it, as so many are.

Never thought I could ever see Graceland again after Elvis died. Finally did this week---It was beyond words for me. It will be one of my favorite days! It finally gave me closure because for 5 years I couldn't even listen to his music -- it was so painful... But yet, it was so sweet.. I wouldn't trade places with anyone because I lived during Elvis's beginnings and I wouldn't trade that with anyone.

angie riddick , February 15, 2002; 04:56 P.M.

Hi I'm 16 years old so, I was born after Elvis' death. But I am still a fan of Elvis and always will be. I use to have original newspaper clippings from before and after he died! I bought them from an older woman who was probably around the same age as elvis and she had saved them all these years along with lots of collectibles and I bought everything she had. My bedroom was done all in Elvis a few years ago but I guess after I got older I wanted the normal teen bedroom!!! Although I still am I big fan! I've read this whole page of comments and I noticed that this page has been up for like 5 years or so now. I'v been to Graceland twice...once when I was 13 or 14 years old and another time last month because my brother came home from the navy with his girlfriend and she is from new york so she thought this would be the only time she would get a chance to see Graceland plus she is a fan so my brother took her and I! I only live a little over an hour and a half from Memphis Tennesee. All these years my mom has said that she doesn't believe that Elvis is dead , and my aunt and uncle who has lived in Memphis all their lives says the same thing. They were just at my house last month to visit my brother and that was the conversation around the kitchen table. My aunt was saying that his middle name is spelled wrong on his grave ..and I was saying "why won't they let anyone see the upstairs of graceland?" Then I was telling everyone that like last year I was watching a life story on The Judds and I think it was Wynona was saying that she was good friends with Elvis and when he died she went to his funeral and it looked as if the side burns had been glued on and one was starting to fall off. and the body looked plastic. Well it's weird because that was just last month we were all talking about it and then last week I was saying to my mom "If Elvis is alive , then what happens when he does pass away? How will anyone know to go to his funeral?" and then GUESS WHAT! ????? On the 13th which was 2 mornings ago.... I was in the bathroom getting ready to go to school and my mom ran in there and told me to come look on the TV! On CNN news there was a Missouri Psychiatrist who says he has been speaking to Elvis Aron (<~~~ correct spelling) Presley, the entertainer, which everybody believes died in 1977. He said that Elvis was suppose to come out to the public that he is alive on January 8th 2002, on his b-day, and bring grieving fans out of the dark and tell them that he faked dting to get away and get healthy! The psychiatrist , Dr. Donal Hinton is his name, says that Elvis has been wanting to come forward and tell the truth for a long time but there are some powerful people that are sill influencing him that, for some reasons related to money, not to come forward. The psychiatrist has Elvis' gold tooth for DNA proof that it is him....because Elvis has had some plastic surgery to change his looks a bit so that he can still go outside in the public without people noticing who he is right off the bat! He has white hair now and he is 67 years old. On CNN it showed a picture of him now...he is in very good shape and healthy and in the picture he had a baby on his knee. Dr. Hinton says that before the year of 2002 is over the whole truth and everthing will be out. They haven't said exactly where Elvis is but he is going by the name of his twin brother Jesse who died at birth. And it is very likely that he is living at the top floor of graceland with his aunt who watches over the mansion.Anyways back to what I was getting at ...i called my aunt last night ( the one who lives in tennesee ) and told her all of this and she was sooo excited, she said that my uncle went to Elvis' funeral because they were living in a house in front of Elvis at the time and that the body did not look real. I went to school yesterday telling everyone and everyone including some of the teachers thought I was crazy and wouldn't believe me but i went to www.cnn.com under daybreak transcripts and showed them.

Wow! I've regularly checked in on photo.net for a few years now, and today is the first that I have seen these comments. I knew Elvis had some die-hard fans, but I guess I'd underestimated the intesity of their devotion! Certainly some of the most interesting comments on photo.net. Thanks, Philip -- photo.net never ceases to surprise me :).

I will never forget the impact of Elvis Presley to the common man. I grew up listening to Elvis and by the time I was 6, had many records and began to really enjoy the movies (although later I would hate them, and now I like them again). Every memory I have as a youngster growing up in the South is steeped in Elvis music. I recall the first time I heard Burning Love. I was in the second grade. The next day I wore my red, white, and blue bell bottoms to school and walked with the typical Elvis "stroll." I have been fortunate enough to see Elvis outside a motel in Jasper, Alabama (complete with cellophane windows and some of the Memphis Mafia bodyguards in 1973), saw him twice in live concerts, and actually ran into J.D. Sumner outside a local radio station when I was 20. He and I were the only two in the parking lot and he took about twenty minutes and entertained my praise for his work, as well as a few Elvis questions. The love in his eyes for Elvis was unmistakable. He missed him badly. J.D. Sumner told me with his own mouth that he knew Elvis as good as anyone, and that he and Elvis had talked not long before his death. He said, "Elvis said he was saved, he was ready. I never would have questioned that. I'm sure he was." That was refreshing to me in light of all the things you could hear about some of his "philosophies." Course, J.D. is gone now. Life moves on. But, I am truly glad we had the chance to enjoy a jewel like Elvis Presley. Thanks Elvis!

Hello, my name is Sabrina. I grew up with a mother who fantasized about elvis all the time and is still a huge fan therefore, I am an elvis fan also. I read the article from the girl who still believes elvis is alive and It may be true but If he is following the advice of everyone around him(by not coming out and letting us know he is still here on earth) then why are we still fans of him? I was always under the impression that elvis did his own thing and only trusted in very few while he was alive(that we know of). I just don't see why we should be following and believing in someone who isn't truthful.... I would like to believe that he really did pass away and for the sacredness of his real body, the family portrayed that to be his real burial site, and he is buried somewhere else. What I would like to know is , where and what happened to the end of the 2002 story it is now 2003 and we haven't had any thing happen yet? where is the shrink now? and where is elvis? What kind of ending is this? if this was a movie I paid to see I'd get my money back. Thank you, Sabrina 3-12-2003

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT ELVIS WAS ALWAYS THE HEIGHT OF TACKY. DRIPPING WITH RHINESTONES, AND OVERDONE IN EXCESS. A LEGEND, YES, BUT A LEGEND THAT WAS CREATED.ANY PERSON OF REASONABLE TALENT WOULD KNOW THAT HE COULD NOT SING VERY WELL. BUT HE COULD DANCE. YOU MIGHT COMPARE HIM TO MADONNA. WE ALL KNOW WHAT A GOOD MANAGER SHE HAD.DO I LOVE ELVIS? I WOULD LIKE TO SAY I DONT. I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL WHEN HE DIED. I REMEMBER MY MOM CRIED...YET SOMEWHERE IN THE 90S, I STARTED COLLECTING MEMORABILIA, AND HAVE A LARGE COLLECTION. MY NEW HUSBANDS BIRTHDAY IS AUGUST 16TH, THE DATE OF HIS DEATH....AND HAILS FROM TENNESSEE. SO IN A WAY, ELVIS PREPARED ME FOR A NEW LIFE. MY FIRST HUSBAND COMMITTED SUICIDE IN 2000, AND EVERY LINK TO ELVIS WAS GETTING ME READY FOR THE SUDDEN CHANGE THAT WOULD COME!THIS MAY SEEM UNEXPLICABLE,BUT I TELL YOU THAT THIS IS MY LIFE.I HAVE BEEN DIRECTED AND INFORMED TO JUST OPENING UP TO THINGS THAT I THOUGHT DISTASTEFUL, AND I WISH OTHER PEOPLE KNEW THE SAME. I added one but you didnt post it. I thought what I had was informative, so I guess I am a little perturbed by comments being dismissed. I didnt curse or anything....I will come back with more comments when I can get rid of this ridiculous password you have given me. Shellie Mc

I visited Graceland in 1987. I had wanted to see the house for years because it was a place Elvis spent most of his life. My experience at Graceland was informative. It was a rainy day as I took the tour so the mood at the house was a little low. The house itself was nice. Not a glorious mansion but more of a comfortable home that someone could enjoy living in. I feel that Elvis knew he couldn't go out much so he made the home a place where family and friends could have fun. Elvis was a regular guy who happened to have a natural talent. I don't think he enjoyed the "over the top" & "crazy" fans (but he appreciated all of his fans). I recommend to anyone who liked Elvis' music and movies to go see Graceland.

Ibrahim Afeef , August 11, 2007; 10:37 A.M.

Graceland is a master-piece in many ways. A complete house in a beautiful location. A great museum of a great legend. An antique in a great nation. A place which every music lover (especially Elvis's fans) all over the world would love to visit once in a life time. I wish if I could visit to Graceland someday. Keep up the great work of the people who are maintaining the beautiful mansion!

I share my birthday with the day of Elvis' death. I was only a child when he died, but I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news.

He was a talent like no other and has and will be missed forever.

God take care of him and continue to bless his fans and his family!
