Wedding Photo of the Week Showcase (Available Light 2) 9/6/10

Nadine Ohara - SF Bay Area/CA , Sep 06, 2010; 12:49 p.m.

Since the Available Light theme will be with us for another week, I am still asking for images taken using available light for the Photo of the Week critique. This time, however, I am asking for images in which available light was augmented, but still primary. This means the use of flash, reflectors, added continuous light, or any other deliberately added or controlled light source was used. It could be simple, for instance, if you deliberately placed the subject so that a sunlit wall augmented available light. Or complex--you added directional, off camera fill flash held by an assistant. Remember--the subject must be lit primarily by available light. The image need not necessarily be very recent.

Make sure it is 700 pixels or less in width - AND - make sure to enter a caption in the caption box on that page where you've uploaded. Some details about the shot would be helpful.

By posting - you agree to allow your image to be chosen for discussion and critique for the week. One will be chosen at random. This is not a contest - but simply an image that we'll discuss. Positive as well as constructive suggestions are what will occur. HOWEVER - IF you wish to post your image but DO NOT WANT to be considered for critique - please say so in your caption. Images that show as a link will be deleted and you'll be asked to re-post.

Newcomers and Pros are both welcome to post in this thread. The thread will be closed late on Tuesday. Look for the choice on Wednesday. Please do not start the critique in this thread ;-)

Great idea for a theme. Maybe next week we can have images where the available light was not primary but used as an accent light. B/G pose augmented with some fill flash. Speedlight mounted on bracket over the lens.

This is almost all available light from ceiling cans along with some weak wall sconce. It was a pretty dark environment but I didn't like the look from full flash/ ceiling bounce (I hardly ever do) so went to a -1 2/3 speedlight output for fill and used the room lighting. Some shadowing was quite sharp, with mixed color temp that invited B&W conversion. Canon 5D; 85mm 1.8 @ 1.8; ISO 1000; 580EX with Stofen + 1/2 CTO.

Available with shadow fill- minus 1 2/3

This was taken on the beach using Canon 5DmII with 24-70 at 400 ISO, f11 at 1/200th. Used on camera flash with a Lightsphere just for a little fill...
